Qaddafi Crazies It Up for 86 Minutes

It's always fun to read about this guy: Colonel Moammar Qaddafi, Brother Leader of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, crazied it up at the United Nations for 86 minutes yesterday.

UPDATE: Here he is sticking up for the Taliban.

I really feel sorry for the translator. Imagine having to keep up with that babble..

The Big Q can be perfectly lucid and sane when he wants to be. Have you ever considered that the reason why he "crazies it up" at the U.N. may be to demonstrate to Libya's populace that he can. So if his crazed comments are accepted as legitimate at the U.N. (which they are simply by the fact that he's speaking there) everybody in Libya had better remember that this crazy guy is the boss and they'd better do his bidding - or else?

When it comes to understanding Arab psychology, Qaddafi's very longevity in office is proof positive that he has it down cold.

The Wall Street Journal this morning
had a terrific picture of the presiding officer at the center of the dais behind Qaddafi holding his head in his hands.
Since he's also a Libyan, I wonder what his future holds upon his return home.
This whole UN thing is something out of Lewis Carroll, Gilbert and Sullivan, and George Orwell...choose your chapters. But, we have to keep paying dues so that we can at least cast our veto when necessary at the Security Council. Good grief!

I think the guy is just nuts.

According to an article in the NY Post, the translator lost it in the middle of this lunatic babble and had to be replaced:

After struggling to turn Khadafy’s insane ramblings at the UN into English for 75 minutes, the Libyan dictator’s personal interpreter got lost in translation.
"I just can’t take it any more," Khadafy’s interpreter shouted into the live microphone – in Arabic.
At that point, the U.N.’s Arabic section chief, Rasha Ajalyaqeen, took over and translated the final 20 minutes of the speech.
"His interpreter just collapsed – this is the first time I have seen this in 25 years," another U.N. Arabic interpreter told The Post...

Yo Qaddafi, I'm really happy for you and Ima let you finish, but Netanyahu had one of the greatest UN speeches of all time.

Did you see Gadhafi's interview with Fareed Zakaria on CNN this morning?

Zakaria sums up the conversation that it appears the old guy is giving way to "new methods" (Gadhafi uses that word alot) that may include joining the rest of the world economically.

Vague, but interesting...your comments?
