Andrew Olmsted Killed In Iraq

Andrew Olmsted -- active duty soldier, blogger, and writer for the Rocky Mountain News – was killed in Diyala Province, Iraq.

I didn’t know Andrew personally, but I was familiar with his writing, and I feel like a hole has been punched into the world.

His friend and blogosphere colleague Hilzoy at Obsidian Wings has published his final dispatch from beyond. Leave some kind comments for his friends and family.

I've been devastated by the news of Andrew's death all day. For those who haven't done so, or who don't know Andrew (or G'Kar, as I've referred to him before here), please read his last post at his own blog or at Obsidian Wings. It captures his intelligence, wit, and straightforward insight wonderfully.

He'll be much more than missed.

I cried all day when I heard the news.

As a WoC regular (well irregular these days) I had a number of interchanges with Andrew. You were there too Michael.

I know it had to hit you hard as well.

However, you have to admit that his Google rankings are way up. (not meant in disrespect but in the spirit of Andrew's last words to us). I wonder if he can get his Sitemeter stats where he is now? He would be gratified.

Regretfully, I never heard of Andrew before.

It is even more regretful to learn about him in this fashion.

My condolences to his wife and his parents and to all who love him.
