Pajamas Media Podcast with Tony Badran

I have been thinking about getting into podcasting for a while now, and I've finally done it. My first interview subject is Tony Badran. He works for the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and writes the must-read Lebanese blog Across the Bay. Tony and I discuss -- what else? -- Lebanese and Syrian politics. We taped the interview just before the latest Beirut meltdown began, so it couldn't be a more timely subject.

The interview is available at Pajamas Media. I'm new at this, so please let me know what you think.

UPDATE: Don't miss Tony's fisking of a recent New York Times article by Michael Slackman. "Lebanon is probably the most misrepresented and misunderstood of all the Arab states, but some people aren't even trying."

Could you post a transcript?

I hope I'm not alone in thinking podcasts and video on the net are a nuisance. The great thing about text is that you can skim until you get to the good parts (and follow links!) If I wanted radio, I'd listen to NPR.

Tony and I aren't on NPR, though, so you won't get us if you listen to that.

The cool thing about podcasts is you can save 'em for when you do want "radio." I can listen to my ipod in the car by using a gizmo that transmits the signal to the radio.

Transcripts, please -- I ask Glenn R. about this too. Where is the computerized automatic Voice to Text? That's more important than the Singularity...

It was a bit long and rambling, but OK with such a hot subject. I wanted to know more a bit more about what the Christians, Druze, and Sunnis were doing & thinking & planning. And also any non-Hez Shia.

Have you found one that doesn't suck?

I have a few friends who have bought such things, and I'm basically waiting for one of them to tell me "yay, it works!"

Works fine for podcasts. Not so great for music.

I just noticed that there's one of those misspelling advert sites sitting at michaltotten.com

You've made it Michael!

I listened to it at work and really enjoyed it. A good alternative to WNYC.org, which I usually listen to, but they tend to report one point of view. Also appreciated that you and Tony's voices were at the same level, so you didn't have to mess with the volumne, which can be annoying on some podcasts. More please!

What Donna said, and thanks, appreciate the effort. = TG
