Featured in Reason Magazine
I have a long feature article with photos in the next issue of Reason magazine about the slow breaking away of Northern Iraqi Kurdistan.

Reason doesn’t publish articles online until after the print version is off the shelves. So if you aren’t a subscriber, look for the August/September issue in bookstores. A lot of the material in The Kurds Go Their Own Way did not appear on this blog.

Posted by: stephen at June 30, 2006 09:15 PMThe interview is coming soon, Stephen. I'm juggling several tasks all at once right now.
Glad you liked the Reason article. Thanks for reading.

Posted by: Frank_A at July 1, 2006 03:24 PM"Barzani's father, the guerilla leader Moula Mustafa, once told Jim Hoagland of THE WASHINGTON POST, 'We can become your 51st state and provide you with oil.' That ws back in 1973."
The statement suggests the process is not fully understood. The Kurd leadership should read up on the process, especially how a place becomes a Territory. Think of Territories as having four gradations, from minimal supervision to whatever they are doing in Puerto Rico.
The US Government is passive in the whole process, in the same sense that the person selling tickets at the movies is passive.
Delegations have stepped from the train, strolled up Pennsylvania Avenue to the Congress, waving the required paperwork on entering, announcing their accomplishment of forming a government, and requesting their delegates be seated, all without Congress knowing anything was afoot.
The Kurds should study the process, and be conscious of the steps needed as well as how quickly they could be completed in an emergency. If something terrible happens and the Turks and Syrian armies cannot be held back or there is a similar dire event, they could zip through the requirements to request being a Category III or IV US Territory and communicate it to Washington D.C. There, suitable Kurds could petition Congress to be seated, with the press looking on, and with the Pundits sorting through the entrails of possibilities.
I don't know what an URL is.
Posted by: Darryl Davis at July 1, 2006 05:38 PMWell Done!
Posted by: lindsey at July 3, 2006 12:08 PMThe comment above by Darryl Davis looks very intresting. Intresting things would be afoot if kurds did decide to join the United States. They may want to look at what alaska did. The people of alaska are building a history project of it. http://www.alaska.edu/creatingalaska/about/
