Responses

Following up once more on Andrew's latest post, here are a few links to posts responding with "reason, ridicule, argument and analysis" to the Walt and Mearsheimer "study."

Here are David Bernstein (Volokh Conspiracy), Dan Drezner, Haaretz's Shmuel Rosner, and, perhaps most effectively, Martin Kramer.

Needless to say, for every thinking person there's the inevitable ridiculous twit or two.

Can't say much about the rebuttal aspect of Kramer's piece, but that was an excellent thumbnail sketch of the post-WWII chronology of the Levant. Lends much perspective to actions and non-actions of all the constituents there and their outside liaisons such as the US, Russia, and now China. Thanks for bringing the link.

It would be the classy thing to do if you could simply link to the articles rebutting the "Israel Lobby" article and not use guilt-by-association to tar Israel's critics. Of course anti-Semites are critical of Israel. That doesn't make them all David Duke.

The point wasn't guilt-by-association at all. It was meant to point out (under the "ridicule" rubric) that this is the kind of nonsense that is usually pronounced by hacks and is quickly dismissed (when it comes from hacks), but it has now received respectability because it carries the Harvard imprematur.

But in order to avoid the misunderstanding of guilt-by-association, I decided to remove the update. In any case, the same point has been made by all the other rebuttals as it is, (to which I would add the following in The American Thinker.)

The whole thing also highlights the really disturbing intellectual alliance (for lack of a better term. But you can call whatever you like) of the "Nation left" with the "Scowcroft right," and in this case, the isolationist "Buchanan right." I may post on that later.
