You are too young to remember, but check around with some of your elders regarding the Columbus Day '62 storm, or the Vanport flood in the post war yrs. (that one even I can't remember). We were without power in north Portland for 11 days, Beaverton for 6 weeks in '62, and that is without flooding. Of course these were the days before news helios and 24/7 rants from people who don't know what they are talking about.

Yeah, back in the good old days without the interweb, instanteous communication, the man on the moon, Vietnam and the Iraq war. Movies were in black and white and so was everything else. Before civil rights, the summer of love, and people squealing about liberation. Before Medicare and Medicaid. Yeah, we just took it like real men. We knew right from wrong.

People rotting on the streets of New Orleans, people stranded and dying because they're poor, in the most powerful country in the world. Documented underfunding of anti-flood measures, Bush downgrading the protection of wetlands. No proper evacuation, slow inadequate initial response.

But we just fucking wussies, what's there to complain about?
