I love the Orwell tea manifesto, so thanks for the link. Now that I can get PG Tips at my local supermarket I can follow all of his advice. I dissent only when it comes to the sugar. I think it's the job of a good strong tea to laugh in the face of milk and sugar. What the milk and sugar provide then is a kind of dialectic tension, a bit of yin/yang, a kind of 'is it safe?'/oil-of-clove without which the tannins in the tea are just tannins. I feel the same way about coffee: if it's good and strong it doesn't mind having milk and, yes, even sugar in it. It is like a strong, self-confidently heterosexual man who enjoys the whimsicality inherent in wearing a flaming pink sweater (not saying I have one, though I used to).

Me too.Thanks Benjamin.Would love to stay but have to go make myself up a pot as we speak.Wonder what Orwell would have said about tea-bags? Well actually I can very easily guess what his attitude would have been,but to me tea-bags are the best thing that ever happened to tea.
And I agree on the 'strong'aspect as well.Nothing worse than a cup of lukewarm,WEAK,tea.If as Jeremy says,it can't stand up to the puny assaults of the sugar and milk,it is not nearly strong enough.

Just two months ago I was rather sure that it was the beginning of the end for most of us bloggers.
Many of the popular ones slowed or stopped posting regularly after the election, and it seemed the life had gone out of it. After the election that seemed to define blogging, everyone was just exhausted.
Suddenly everyone had a blog, and they they used them not to take down reporters, but to let people know how the new baby was doing, to complain about homework, or for bitching about how clueless the new boss is.
But in the past several weeks, a renaissance has occured in the pajamasphere. A new life has been breathed into everyone. Everyone is posting full speed ahead once again. But why?
Was it Eason Jordan losing his job at CNN? Nah, he's better off now, he has Sharon Stone. Much better choice if you ask me.
I believe it was just because everyone took a much needed rest. Will they ever become your kings and queens? In the long run I'm not sure. But I still like blogging at the Pirate-King, and I'm not going to stop while I still have something to say!
