Sean LaFreniere wants the US to annex Europe. The idea is crazy, but in a few short paragraphs he made me go hmm.

BTW, the western parts of Canada are full of people who hate the way their country is run. So if things ever head south in our neighbor up north, we just might get petitioned by some of the western Canadian provinces to be let into the Union.

What, never? Not to be "fringy" here but, can you go out of the house, say 20 minutes from now, and stick a knife in some random person for purely ideological reasons?

Of course not! Your upbringing makes that very difficult (an upbringing based on long Western European tradition). In our army the abilty to kill on demand takes a lot of training.

By contrast Western Europe is filling with people not so inclined. That is, unassimilated, unemployed Muslims living in a society too static economically to take them in. And they are fast becoming a law and society unto themselves. Shar'ia courts are openly operating in France and England, with dire results.

France has nukes. Islamists want them. Will a tipping point come? One can only observe and plot the curve.

It is a mistake to assume current trends will continue on the same trajectory indefinitely without a corrective. History doesn't work like that. It curves around corners and swings on hinges. The majority of French people will not likely allow the Islamization of their society to continue past their own tipping point without a brutal crackdown unthinkable today.

Wholly granted Michael. Glasnost springs to mind. However, in this case, I am wondering at the nature of the "corrective." Especially given the present levels of denial in France--rather like the French aristocracy in 1788. Will it come to a case of corrective postponed is corrective denied?

I've never taken a class and I don't even understand the terminology. Keep in mind that I only post the best photos I have. I take a lot of crappy ones...

Well, if all of Canada save Quebec and Ontario (upper and lower Canada) joined the US, most of Canada's population would still be Canadian, but the US woudl treat the provinces better, especially Newfoundland, which almost joined the US, if it wasn't for the dead voters in 1949.

Actually there is both a process and precedent. Look at Puerto Rico. The term is unincorporated terrority if the area in question is not going to become a state, and incorporated terrority if it intends to become a state. But the Idea of increasing the Participation in the Union is an Idea whose time has come yet again. With modern communications there is no need to geographically restrict access.
