Off the Deep End

What the hell?

She knew her new name might finally stick when she got a phone message recently: "Hi, GoVeg.com. This is your mother. Please call me."

It might sound more than a little odd — but it's true. A young animal rights activist from Indiana once known as Karin Robertson has legally changed her name to that of a Web site run by her employer, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

That's the craziest thing I've read about since Montana's Libertarian Party candidate for senate turned himself blue.

Some things you just can't make up.

Obviously, this woman needs to be hauled before the ICC for . . . something ;-)

I recall a campaign by Dunlop a year ago where they chose some "lucky" contestants who received a few bucks for changing their last names to "Dunlop-Tire". There's mention of it here.

Changing your name is pretty tame when you think about what some people will do.

If there were no web, would she change her name to 810 Treehugger Lane (or whatever)?

Weird -- last week my best friend was telling me about how her college roommate just had her name changed to GoVeg.com, and she was a little worried for her. But she gave her a call and was reassured to find that it was still the same old Karin, just trying to get a little publicity for PETA.

Dave,

So I just posted about your best friend's roommate? That is weird...

I wonder of she'll keep her name if she gets married....
