Score?

Brad Thor at Andrew Breitbart's Big Government says Taliban leader Mullah Omar has been captured. How he got this story when no one else seems to have it is a mystery. If true, it's terrific news and one hell of a scoop for a blog. In the meantime, I will remain hopeful yet unconvinced without an official announcement.

It would be nice to prove Beg wrong. Not sure I buy it.

Ahmed Rashid: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8665657.stm

"In 1996, Mullah Omar and his Sunni Pakhtuns captured Kabul and established their Islamic emirate. They became famous and soon afterward notorious as the Taliban (students) of the thousands of madrassas that had sprung up along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border thanks to generous financial help from Saudi Arabia and the overall strategy formulated by the CIA to oust the Soviets from Afghanistan.

The Americans perceived the rise of the Taliban as a stabilizing factor, which could be used “as a stepping stone to gain access to natural resources in the Caspian Sea as well as the markets and resources of the newly independent republics” (p 28). That was to prove a delusion rather quickly." Ishtiak Ahmed

Breitbart further claims military Intelligence didn't pass this major news up the chain to Clinton ten weeks ago nor did the Pakistanis. It was her husband's hopes that proved delusional both in regard to Omar and Pakistan. Breitbart also suggests a dangerous gulf between military intelligence and Brennan/Panetta and more amazingly, military intelligence and the Sec of Def. This is a interesting story if true following the administration's surprise over Meshud being alive and linked to Shahzad.

Yeah it would be significant, but you've got to think the Intel from him has been plumbed unless he is just under house arrest awaiting transfer to Kabul. What ever happened to Baradar?

I don't see any significant change in the ground situation which makes me wonder how right Breitbart is. Omar's capture should have an impact in Afghanistan. Hell, Beg would have emailed LWJ by now.....

If the IS has Omar, then what I expected might be true. This is about Pakistan and not the US, or so maybe the ISI thinks. Interesting situation if true...
