Indeed. This is strongly suggestive as to why Putin's authoritarian and reactionary impulses - his lack of a more encompassing and more inclusive vision - can be so pernicious, so corrosive. Likewise Putin's apologists and enablers, no matter their professed or actual motivations.
Yes, it's complicated and vast, but the baby is being thrown out with the bath water in a far too matter-of-fact manner. Similarly, far too many are prone to accept the new status quo put in place by Russia's advance, rather than being willing to resist, determining where, when and how to take a stand. A certain realism needs to inform any analysis and decision, but "realism" is not synonymous with capitulation and submission before any and all exercises in raw power.

Uh, more American soldiers should be there? Why? I have yet to see a cogent explanation of vital U.S. stakes in Georgia, Ukraine, Central and Eastern Europe. What exactly are we trying to accomplish there, in addition to the fuzzy democracy thing? I'm not so sure.
Are we ready to oppose Russia again over Europe? I'm not, and I wouldn't support any effort to do so. It's been reported that we're pulling out of Germany little by little, which to me is a good thing. What's best for America, to continue the thankless task of worrying about European security? I think not, and I can't think of one military person, in my small circle, who would sacrifice for Europe yet again, but perhaps I'm missing something.
